Aqua Breath

A heavy cloud cover did not prevent a lovely sunset.

Last Week in January

Boy, what an inspirational title :) Saturday morning saw a temperature of -6F at 9am. My car protested in starting that morning. The sunrise was pretty, but I wasn't about to freeze my fingers off at the beach for it!

Sunday we were above zero again, but it was still chilly. Yesterday, we were suddenly at around 20F again! It's amazing how warm that actually feels after weeks of hovering around 10F or below!

Last week, you may have heard about the northern lights and how brilliant they were here. We struck out down here =/ Friday the 20th, I knew they could be out, so I took some shots from my house. Lights were showing up on the camera, but not to the naked eye, unfortunately. I heard later that an hour north, they did see them that evening. Saturday, the next evening, the Fairbanks area had an incredible display (Susan's blog post...a beautiful video)....but it was cloudy here. Tuesday, my mom's birthday, it was beautiful and clear in my hometown, and cloudy at our house. I was bummed that I missed the action, but it was also cold enough out that it might not have been very enjoyable! I'm hoping we get some more great light action soon and that I am able to view it!

Light's End

The golden sunset light was quickly disappearing, with just a hint remaining on some of the rocks. I was so blessed to see and shoot a lot of lovely rainbows in September 2011.

Rainbow's Treasure

The light this evening was just wonderful. Golden sunset light peaking through the clouds, lighting up the sky as rain still fell. I didn't have too long before the sun disappeared.

C's Birthday

Wednesday, we woke up to more snow that we had to shovel. I am officially tired of snow this winter, and we are nowhere near done yet! And it is also nowhere near what Valdez and Cordova have had, which I am thankful for! It was 1F when we were shoveling, and we had a wind chill down to -22F! It didn't feel nearly that cold, though, so that was nice.
We had a winter weather advisory that day, and there was nothing I needed to take care of that day, so we just stayed home while the wind and snow blew around. Youth group was cancelled halfway through the day due to the weather, which was nice. We stayed in and watched Star Trek.
Thursday morning was C's birthday! We had even more snow, so we had to shovel the driveway again. What a birthday treat!
C had a lazy afternoon, working on projects. For dinner, we left home in the midst of the snow storm that was still going on. We went out for pizza with friends, and I was a bit concerned that we might not make it! A white out most of the way was not fun.
We had a nice dinner, with leftovers to bring home, and lots of new snow in the hour and a half or so we'd been dining!
C had a nice day, so that was good. We both had three days off together this week, so it was a fun extended weekend for it!

Rainbow Dreams

I was already headed to the beach for the sunset, when I saw this rainbow as soon as I left home...I made it in time!

Mom's Birthday

Yesterday, it was my mom's birthday. C and I went out to my parents' house for lunch. My dad was feeling under the weather, so he ended up sleeping most of the time we were there.
I got some much needed kitty loving in :)
It occurred to me last year some time that I don't have a single picture with just mom and me. I sought to remedy that finally!
It was a nice afternoon, and I'm glad we got to do it :)

Hope Waterfall

A rainy trip down the Hope road saw a few little waterfalls, but this was the best one by far. I didn't have a good way of a getting a better composition, and it was raining, so I didn't stay long.

Squirrel

This little squirrel hangs out at my work, and my boss told me to go take some photos of him.
He was running all over the place, like he was frantic to store food or something. He's a few months late :)

Rainbow of Hope

A rainy trip to Anchorage meant lots of beautiful rainbows, and the best of them at the most opportune times. This was taken in Hope, Alaska.

Recent Moose Photos

The moose are back in force now that the snow has forced them out of the hills!

Rainbow Reflection

I was driving to Anchorage in September, and it was a very rainy day. I pulled over frequently to take photos, and there were rainbows peeking out constantly. I have stopped at this pulloff many times, but it just looked lovely on this particular day. I managed to have perfect timing, because a rainbow came out when I was ready for it, and faded soon after.

Golden Glow

Dark clouds last week really helped the light to pop!

It was chilly, so I didn't stay in this spot for long.

Bunnies!

A plump one!

Our area has been overrun with bunnies this year. It is great for hunters, and bad for gardens and roadkill. The eagle population has had problems because they have been getting hit by cars as they scavenge.

Hiding....among the bare ground

I think they are so cute! I know I'm in the minority of the locals, but I want to see more of them in the daylight to take some photos. Now that we have lots of snow on the ground, I haven't seen any =/

Evening Stroll

I was shooting at sunset at the beach when this little guy popped up and started wading in the water nearby. I swapped out my lens once the prime color of the sunset was gone to capture this cutie.

Incredible Sunrise

I had to head to work, but I hurried with getting ready so I could make a quick beach trip.

I wasn't prepared to be out in the cold for long, and I didn't have much time, but I made the most of it, I think.

Pink and Blue

I don't have a more clever title at the moment, but I do love the colors!

Bathroom Painting Round 1

It occurred to me as I was pondering this post that I never did a house tour! Although, it has been a work in progress since we moved in, really, so I suppose it's not such a bad thing. There are still a couple projects that need to happen to the interior before I am completely happy with it, but I plan to give a very in depth tour very soon :)

That being said, we started painting our bathroom at the beginning of November, and stopped. I got sick and did not want to be breathing in fumes, and them C caught it, so I forbid painting, and we never continued...

I edited the photos almost immediately, and uploaded them to Facebook last week to get them out of my 2011 queue :) I'll do a bathroom post later, and when we are done, a before and after post, but for now, you get pics of C painting and me hamming it up!!
