Hawaii: Sunsets

As I mentioned before, we weren't terribly impressed with the sunsets in Hawaii, but they were still decent. Here are a few of my favorites.

Waikiki Beach

A little upped saturation.

This one is a bit more impressive at a larger size.

Hawaii: The North Shore

We went on our bus tour on day 3, as I have already mentioned, and that took us to Oahu's North Shore, home to the world famous huge surfing waves.

I thought that home in Alaska had big waves. We weren't able to effectively capture what we wanted to of the waves. But they were incredible!

Not really sure on the name or location of this, but the rock was pretty fascinating.


This shot was from the Pali Lookout close to Honolulu. The haze around the sun caught my attention and I snapped it.

Hawaii: Palm Trees

Ahh, the iconic Hawaiian palm tree. What would any photo be like without them?
We went on a bus tour of Oahu on our 3rd day. I'm not sure where the location is of this shot, but it is somewhere out of Honolulu.

I upped the contrast on this one quite a bit, but I love the sky color.

Hawaii: Zoo - Mammals

We almost didn't get to see the cheetahs. C really wanted to find them, so we kept looking for their exhibit, but managed to go right by it. When we looked at our map and saw we were long past it, we back tracked. I'm really glad that we did. We both love these photos of them.

Meerkats are pretty cute!

I don't really care for monkeys all that much, but I like the photos!

Hawaii: Zoo - Birds and Reptiles

We went to the Honolulu Zoo. It was a really fabulous zoo, with a great African section. I narrowed my photos down to 11 I really loved from the zoo. This post will be devoted to the birds and the reptiles.

There were quite a few peacocks there, and several were roaming around free, out of a confined space. This one let us get quite close to it, much to my glee.

I'm not sure of a name of this one. It was flying around lose in the flamingo exhibit!

And this one. All I know about it was that it was in the African aviary house. I should have taken a photo of its name to remember it. Googling for it has not helped me with a name. EDIT: I found out that this is a Vulturine Guineafowl. Totally more clear!

Big tortoise.

The komodo dragon was pretty interesting to watch. He was fed while we stood there, which was cool.

Hawaii Photos: Day 1

I'm finally working on blogging the photos from our trip!

This was shot from our plane. I took several shots for about an hour, and this is probably my favorite. There are specks from the window on the shot, and I think they give it character. But the sun shining on the ocean was an amazing sight to behold.

I have always loved hibiscuses and I am not really sure why. But when I came across one at the Honolulu Zoo, I knew I must take a shot of it!

Sunset on Kuhio Beach. C and I were not really that impressed with the Hawaiian sunsets. The sun always managed to turn an amazing red color, but the sky didn't change too much. At least compared to Alaskan sunsets, that is!

Vacation!

The big news in our world today is that we are going on a vacation!! We had been talking about it off and on for months, and finally, in January, decided we would do it. We decided on dates, and I gave C a paper with the dates on it to submit the paperwork at his work. Enter a week a half of forgetfulness. I would talk to him while he was at work, and he would be ready to do it right then, and by the time I was off the phone, he would have a customer. That's how it was for nearly 2 weeks. Then, come to find out, the manager in charge of giving clearance on the paperwork was gone for 3 weeks.

Oh, I was unhappy. Very much so, but there was nothing we could do. Other options were not in the best interest of everyone else, so we waited. Or rather, I waited, C more just forgot about it, again.

And then, lo and behold, said manager appeared at work yesterday! C called me this morning with news that the paperwork went through, and now we can buy tickets!

Thankfully, the ticket prices have not changed in the past month!

We are looking at going to Redding, California to see my family that C has not met yet, and to Hawaii. I doubt that we will be able to rent a car due to our ages, so we are thinking of sticking around in Honolulu. We need suggestions on places to go that are good distances for walking. If Honolulu is not a good choice for this, we'd love to know.

I called my grandma this morning to tell her the news and she was thrilled and very surprised. I don't think she expected us to come see her anytime soon. :)
