Stroll Across the Street

Moose Stroll - Homer, Alaska
I was fortunate to encounter this moose this past winter as it strolled across the street in downtown Homer, Alaska.

Print available.

Ms. Robin

For the past several years, I have not seen many robins at all. Before I moved out, I saw many, but once I moved into my own place, they were few and far between. Last summer, after I moved to this house, I began to notice robins quite often, but I never had time when I saw them. In the meantime, they have been quite plentiful at my work. I often sit outside on my lunch break when the sun is shining, and one or two robins are often hopping along behind me, picking out lunch from the ground. I got lucky the other day and captured this one :)

Twilight Boxer's Puppies

On Tuesday, I shot the most adorable photo shoot I have ever done! Twilight Boxer's six puppies!

Each of the puppies has a distinct personality, and so my host had arranged some fun props to include in some of the photos. Puppies don't really cooperate, for the most part, but it was still a blast!

I ended up sitting and laying on the grass for most of the shoot to get up close and personal with the pups. I finished the afternoon with grass stains on my jeans, but lots of fun shots!

The puppies have an impressive parentage, and the breeder has obviously taken excellent care of both the mother and the puppies.

Unfortunately for all of you that are interested in them, all of the puppies have homes lined up!

They loved to run up to me and several of them climbed all over me while I was on the ground! So fun!

These darlings were a blast to shoot! I am open to the idea of pet photography now! It was a great time for sure!

Neighborhood Geese

These are geese that live around our home....and they seem to have free reign of the whole neighborhood! They have provided me with a bit of entertainment in the past few months!

They are a bit of a hazard in the road, but this is a sleepy enough town that it's not a big deal.

Happy goose!

Funny waddler

Snowy Hare on a Snowy Day

This past winter, I got quite a few rabbit photos. None of which were spectacular, but I enjoyed following the poor creatures around :)

Many people hate them, but I love them for their loveable faces :)

Afternoon Rest

Homer has seen a lot of snowshoe hares this winter. They are literally everywhere, and I see them frequently at my house. I noticed this one in the brush one afternoon and crept quite close to it. It ignored me completely until I had my photo fill and let it continue its solitude.

Moose in Town

This young moose was enjoying the sunshine a couple weeks back. I was outside taking pictures of it, and I was completely ignored, and I felt that it got a little too close to me, but it didn't seem concerned.

The moose here are not concerned with being in town with traffic, and are quite used to the people.

Food sources have gotten scarce for the poor creatures, and they are often seen digging in the snow with their noses.

Snowy nose!

Reeeeaacchh!!! Poor thing couldn't quite reach the branches!

Last Week in January

Boy, what an inspirational title :) Saturday morning saw a temperature of -6F at 9am. My car protested in starting that morning. The sunrise was pretty, but I wasn't about to freeze my fingers off at the beach for it!

Sunday we were above zero again, but it was still chilly. Yesterday, we were suddenly at around 20F again! It's amazing how warm that actually feels after weeks of hovering around 10F or below!

Last week, you may have heard about the northern lights and how brilliant they were here. We struck out down here =/ Friday the 20th, I knew they could be out, so I took some shots from my house. Lights were showing up on the camera, but not to the naked eye, unfortunately. I heard later that an hour north, they did see them that evening. Saturday, the next evening, the Fairbanks area had an incredible display (Susan's blog post...a beautiful video)....but it was cloudy here. Tuesday, my mom's birthday, it was beautiful and clear in my hometown, and cloudy at our house. I was bummed that I missed the action, but it was also cold enough out that it might not have been very enjoyable! I'm hoping we get some more great light action soon and that I am able to view it!
