Light's End

The golden sunset light was quickly disappearing, with just a hint remaining on some of the rocks. I was so blessed to see and shoot a lot of lovely rainbows in September 2011.

Rainbow's Treasure

The light this evening was just wonderful. Golden sunset light peaking through the clouds, lighting up the sky as rain still fell. I didn't have too long before the sun disappeared.

Rainbow Dreams

I was already headed to the beach for the sunset, when I saw this rainbow as soon as I left home...I made it in time!

Rainbow of Hope

A rainy trip to Anchorage meant lots of beautiful rainbows, and the best of them at the most opportune times. This was taken in Hope, Alaska.

Rainbow Reflection

I was driving to Anchorage in September, and it was a very rainy day. I pulled over frequently to take photos, and there were rainbows peeking out constantly. I have stopped at this pulloff many times, but it just looked lovely on this particular day. I managed to have perfect timing, because a rainbow came out when I was ready for it, and faded soon after.

A Stormy Day

A couple weeks back, the day dawned a bit overcast, but it appeared that the sun would come out. I went to work (inside) and suddenly realized that it was pouring rain, and incredibly windy. Many boats did not go out that day, and work was busy.
I took a drive up the hill and had to stop a couple times to take photos after work. The wind had mostly stopped (after 8 hours) and so had the rain, but the Bay still looked really stormy. Check out the water fanning out from the Spit.
And then the sun peeked through the clouds enough to illuminate a rainbow around Grewingk Glacier.
I love unexpected rainbows and the unexpected loveliness of storms!

11:30 Rainbow

This is a rather poor photo, but I took this at 11:30pm. The sun was pretty much gone from the sky, but many people around town so this. I wish I had been at the beach, but it disappeared quite soon after I shot this.

The last two days were absolutely amazing weather wise. The past few summers have been less than great most of the time, but in the past 2 days, I have been remembering the summers of my childhood. I had begun to think I was crazy, but I got to experience them all over again. The past two days have been gloriously warm. The rest of the country is under extreme heat it seems, but it is just right here. I spent several hours reading outside, just soaking in the sunshine that I never get enough of.

I also attempted to do some work outside in it and had to stop after about 20 minutes because it was "too hot" ;) But really, these have been the days that keep me dealing with the cold of winter!

Potter Marsh and Rainbow

I have never stopped at Potter Marsh before, though I have wanted to. But this time, I had to turn around and go back when I saw a rainbow over the area. I was also intrigued by the swans!

The second duck was splashing the water. I wished I had been closer for it :)

The rainbow wasn't as bright as I was hoping for, but I think it was still lovely!

Hint of a Rainbow

Had to stop and shoot when I saw this small rainbow lighting up the mountains a few nights ago!

Rainbow Over the Lake

I love rainbows. But I never seem to be able to catch them when I am able to run off and shoot them. Or, if I can, they are not very vivid and disappear shortly. I saw this one out my window at about 10:20 one evening and raced out the door, since it was almost sunset time. I have longed to get an image of a rainbow over Beluga Lake for some time now, but have not been successful yet.

That night, I was. It wasn't the most vibrant of rainbows, but I am still happy that it showed up nicely for me!
