Moose Sightings

I was driving to work one morning when this moose suddenly turned onto my street and started running down it, straight for my car. I was a bit freaked out, and wasn't sure what to do. I couldn't grab my camera until it had already veered away from my car, but I wasn't sure what was going to happen for a bit there!

I enjoy moose visits at home :)

The poor moose were starving this winter due to the huge amount of snow we had. They took to stripping the trees lining the main street in town of their bark. Time will tell if the trees survive, but it's sad to see, for both the trees and the moose, especially because that bark is apparently not the best thing for them.

I am happy to report that green grass is poking its head up now, so hopefully they have new food now :)

Moose Expressions

Moose are quite expressive animals sometimes. Of course, you can tell a lot by their body language, but their faces can have all kinds of expressions as well.

It's not really smiling here, but it sure looks like it :)

Moose Eating Spruce Branches

This winter, the moose are having a hard time finding food because of how much snow we have. I looked outside of work one afternoon and was surprised to see this moose standing on the top of the berm of snow (quite tall) and eating spruce needles!

Here he is a little farther down, but it doesn't show how high the berm is.

I watched him throughout the afternoon. At one point, he climbed to the top and attempted to go down the other side, but it looked like he walked onto softer snow and tumbled down! I was bummed I missed it on video!

Moose in Town

This young moose was enjoying the sunshine a couple weeks back. I was outside taking pictures of it, and I was completely ignored, and I felt that it got a little too close to me, but it didn't seem concerned.

The moose here are not concerned with being in town with traffic, and are quite used to the people.

Food sources have gotten scarce for the poor creatures, and they are often seen digging in the snow with their noses.

Moose Calf

I spent a while observing this guy, his sibling and mother. I wasn't as close as I would have liked, but I prefer to be too far away versus too close! Consequently, this was about the best shot I got for the evening.

Moose Twins

I pulled onto one of the streets near my home a couple weeks ago and was excited to see twin moose calves and their mother! I stopped in the street, and grabbed a shot as I was stopped. I had my 50mm lens on the camera, and I didn't zoom in. This is how close I was!
