This week, my dad's cousin and her husband drove into town for a visit. They have been on the road for over 30 days (!!) with an RV caravan touring Alaska. Many of my extended family I have met several times, but know little of. These cousins I know a liiiitle more than others. I've stayed at their home a couple times, and seen them a couple more times at reunions. Nice to have them in our territory, finally!
They are at the end of their tour, at the end of the road, haha, and they aren't sure what they will be doing next, whether staying or heading home.
Last night, they drove into town, and C and I met up with them and Mom and Dad for a late dinner of pizza. I didn't take any photos (shocker!) because I was counting on tonight.
They had glorious sunshine today and enjoyed it thoroughly, exploring the area with my parents all day. We met for an even later dinner tonight, at good ole, original Subway. While we were there, my nephew showed up, so we chatted with him (got to love small towns) and we enjoyed another dinner together. We said goodbye for now, but if they stick around town, we'll enjoy some more time with them, hopefully!

Stress...
So I figured out that I needed a day planner of some form. I managed to forget a ton of things I wouldn't usually ever forget - the house payment, the monthly budget, etc. I was a bit depressed by the fact that, it is nearly May and all day planners for 2012 are probably nonexistent........texted my boss and asked if she happened to have one lying around and I was in luck! I got my hands on it today and it is quite attractive and small enough that I could carry it around often. Tonight I realized that I scheduled two things to overlap next week. I normally would not have done something that dumb, but it's obvious I'm not thinking clearly right now. *sigh* So I immediately grabbed the planner and started writing in it. So hopefully I can make use of it and form a good habit to keep track of things!
I went aurora hunting the other night and before I came home, I was desperately in need of a bathroom break. I was parked along the side of the road, in the dark, in a grassy area. I contemplated several times going the Alaskan way and going outside (not the first time...can't grow up here and not have that experience!), but I resisted :P I was telling C about it later...
Me: "I almost peed outside. So I was almost an Alaskan."
C: "So if you aren't Alaskan, then what are you?"
Me: "...Canadian."
C: 'Oh, they don't pee in Canada?"
I hope that wasn't too awkward or idiotic, but I laughed pretty hard.
Yesterday, I said goodbye to my coworker who is moving. It was super short and not very sweet - literally a hug and "Bye!" and she was on her way. It was a bit sad for its brevity, but I realized how nice it was to not be tearing up and feeling sorry for myself! Later that day, we said goodbye to one of C's brothers. It evolved into a nice family evening and we ended up staying until 11:30pm. We had both ridden our bikes to work that day and so rode to the in laws' after work and just stayed. I ended up playing board games and chatting with my mother in law while C had a great conversation with a brother. Needless to say, when it became 11:30, we needed to get home so we could go to bed. We tossed around several ideas, but in the end, we decided to ride home in the dark. There was still a little bit of daylight above the trees, but not much. We did fine, riding under street lights until we got to our street. That was a bit spooky and I was concerned about moose, but it was uneventful. I don't plan on doing that again, but it was an adventure for sure!

Can't it Slow Down for a Minute?!
It's amazing how life suddenly starts going without any chance of slowing down in sight. For the past month, I have been in a daze of work and life, struggling to stay afloat, really. I was sick for 2 weeks, and it hung on for another week for the most part. I was healthy for a week, and then a week ago Friday, I woke up in the middle of the night with a stomach bug of some kind (I'm thinking food poisoning) effectively forcing me to slow down. I had plans for that day to be going from 9am to 11pm with no breaks in between, and I missed out on everything I had lined up for the day.
I recovered by late afternoon and felt much better by bedtime. I worked Saturday and felt even better as the day went on. Can't really miss more than a day of work when sick pay is nonexistent :)
My silly pinwheel that turns when the heater is blowing. Puts a smile on my face :P
Last week, we had a family dinner at my in laws' house. My husband's brother was in town for a month and the sibling out of town flew into town for less than 24 hours and we had a nice family dinner with all seven children under one roof for the first time in years.
When I was sick last week, before I realized that something was wrong with myself, I had two panic attacks, one worse than the other. Looking up the symptoms for a true panic attack, I don't think I was having a diagnosable one, but I was sure stressed out. I thought maybe I had stressed myself into being sick from work responsibilities, but some of my symptoms of the bug were a bit hard to fake :) So anyway, I basically wound myself up pretty good and stayed high strung for several days.

Tuesday, I was pretty unbearable to live with, I think. As a child, I would stress over something, and then cry it out and it would all be fine. I was a sensitive one and cried pretty frequently. Growing older, I still cried easily, but not as often. It was when we got married, that C started to pick up on a pattern to it all. If I became more needy for attention, whiny, and downright obnoxious, I probably needed a good cry. Probably hormonal, but it was usually not at a set time every month. But generally every month at some point, something will set me off and I will cry for a while, and then everything will be right again. That was Tuesday. I was being obnoxious, starting to drive C crazy, I think, and we both acknowledged that I probably needed some release. Finally, before bedtime, I finally had a cathartic weeping session that went on for an hour, and got all of my stress released from work, life, housework, etc. I felt much better, and C and I both noticed an impressive change in my mood and attitude the next day. Pretty crazy, really. Since then, I have been much less stressed and generally happier (though I am usually a happy person).
Monday evening, I was waiting for the northern lights to appear, blazing in the sky. They never materialized for me. I went out before 11pm, despite there being some daylight still! It was a rather dark evening and the parking lot I chose to camp out in was a bit too crowded and creepy for my tastes, and also included a motorhome!! NO! I ended up going for a drive to search for a less lighted location to watch for the lights, but they never materialized for me (and did not for anyone else in the state either, but the Lower 48 got an excellent show!) and I headed home around 12:30. *sigh*
Wednesday, we drove out to my hometown to change our snow tires with my dad. We bought milkshakes at my favorite restaurant there and enjoyed them in the beautiful sunshine (54 degrees at one point!). C's car ended up causing us a bit of grief. Last fall, one of the studs connecting the tire to the car broke off. Dad bought a new one to replace it with. But all the remaining studs on that section of the car were ornery as well, and 3 more of 5 ended up breaking off! After doing some calling around, I ended up going back to town on a parts buying mission, and then turned around to go back. But it was a beautiful day for a drive. I even ended up turning the A/C on, and I loved sipping on my shake as I journeyed.
The car was put back together without another problem, and C went home. I stayed for a memorial service for a woman I knew growing up. Had a nice potluck dinner and then conversation and observing of locals from my hometown. It was a nice service and it made me want to hug my loved ones.
I felt a bit silly, while working on the tires. I watched a guy fly down the road on a 4wheeler and thought about how normal that is for my hometown, but in my new town, 4wheeler's aren't supposed to be driven down the streets in town. A silly difference, but it reminded me of the good times I had exploring the area and living the good life in a tiny Alaskan town - playing in puddles, bike riding through town, etc.
Last night, after work, 2 of my coworkers and I went up to my boss's house for dinner. She's still laid up with her broken leg, so we went to her. My coworker of 6 years is moving this weekend, and I worked with her one last time today and then we had a farewell little party for her. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and I will really miss her. Sad to see friends move on, but she is going on a grand adventure and I am excited for her.
So, all this to say, I haven't had much time to think about blogging. I finally got my house clean after 4 weeks on Tuesday! I keep thinking of things I want to talk about, but I never have a chance to sit down and write it out...so hopefully I can again soon!

Snow Just Keeps Coming!
I had an excellent birthday! I haven't edited the photos yet, but it was great! When I finally get to them, I'll give a recap....hopefully it won't be too long from now!
Life has been busy in my neck of the woods. Seemed like last week was a whirlwind of appointments, and small stressors. I hung out with a friend for a scrapbooking date, and it was wonderful. She and I both had not scrapbooked since the last time we got together....around a year ago *wince*.
Winter continues to hang on here. The rest of the country seems to be having a wonderful spring, and temperatures way above normal, but we are having a typical winter here. I have not seen any official numbers for snowfall for the winter yet, but the local paper has gotten us a bit closer, and it is insane! My favorite part is the description of how the tallest snow berms may stick around until the end of JULY. We have had several nice, teasing days here, and the next day we get several more inches of snow. I'm tired of it, but not getting worked up over it like some locals. It is, of course, snowing today :)
The next couple weeks are set to be busy as well. We've got the local high school play to attend, a dinner with friends, C's little brother coming for a visit, and our 4th anniversary. And that's just what I am aware of today!
I hope you weekend is wonderful!

Mom's Birthday
Yesterday, it was my mom's birthday. C and I went out to my parents' house for lunch. My dad was feeling under the weather, so he ended up sleeping most of the time we were there.
I got some much needed kitty loving in :)
It occurred to me last year some time that I don't have a single picture with just mom and me. I sought to remedy that finally!
It was a nice afternoon, and I'm glad we got to do it :)

Family Dessert Night
One of my brothers in law just took off for YWAM. C and I ended up taking him to the airport, which was an adventure :)
Before he left, we managed to get everyone together for a last hurrah: ice cream!
And banana bread :)
It was a fun evening with the family. And also depressing, because, all 7 kids were finally back in the state, and now we are missing one again for several months. Times change :(

Paper Cranes
My youngest brother in law (11, almost 12) has apparently been on a paper crane kick lately. There are 6 or 7 cranes in different colors hanging from the living room ceiling at my in laws' house. This one is sitting on a nest, and there are supposedly eggs in there too :P I didn't attempt to fish them out, but I probably should have!
Aren't they fun though? It definitely keeps things interesting :)

August
August has been busy so far.
C had to work this past Tuesday again, so I went on a photoshoot with a friend. The lighting was glorious, with just a hint of sunshine for us. It was wonderful, except the mosquitoes ate me alive!
I came home and later that afternoon went to see Toy Story 3 with Mom. It was so good! And so fun to see it with Mom.
When I was at work on Monday, someone came to the door with a lovely orange cat, saying it was lost. She took it up into the woods, and mentioned it had a collar with a phone number on it. We forgot about him, until later when I hear him yowling. I went to the door to see what was happening and he saw me. Quite excited to see a human, the kitty bounded towards me and tried to come into the building with me. My boss let me carry him up to the woods again. He was a really nice kitty that wasn't afraid of me at all, which was sweet :) He hung around a bit more, and then I went home.
The bunny is still hopping around our yard!
I've been keeping an eye to the skies in the evening to catch a glimpse of the northern lights, but it has been too cloudy. Tonight has potential, if only a bit, though!
Well, I just wanted to say hello.

Graduation
My nephew graduated from high school a few weeks ago. It's hard for me to believe that I am that old to have him graduating!!
It was a stifling ceremony in the gym, but it was mercifully only a little over an hour long. Usually it goes longer than that. My nephew was excited C and I made it, and we had a big family gathering at the end. Unfortunately, I didn't get any photos of that...

Dinner with the In Laws
C and I went to his parents' house Monday night. We had a family dinner, which does not happen often enough! These dinners are often filled with crazy jokes and lots of laughter. I often end up the brunt of the jokes, somehow, but as the years have passed, I have learned a bit more on how to hold my own and often offer more and more clever comebacks.
Before and after dinner, I chased the cats and the dog around with the camera. Nothing new there :) There are a couple more family dinners planned in the next couple of months, which will be great fun!

Mother's Day
Mother's Day turned out to be really nice. I went to lunch with my parents and while we were there, my brother called. He was alone in town (without his family) and joined us for lunch. Only my sister was missing and we would have had a complete family lunch. I can't think of the last time we had a family lunch with only the five of us.
It was a great time and I enjoyed loving on my mom!

Dad's Birthday
Saturday, May 1, was my dad's birthday. C and I went out for dinner with the rest of the family in town. My sister in law made this incredible German chocolate cake.
Mom and I took several photos.
We had a good seat in the restaurant and watched the eagles outside. There were people fishing, so we watched the eagles snatch fish from the water and then fight over them. A sea otter floated by several times as well, so we had great dinner entertainment. The cake my sister in law made was incredible. Very elegant, and extremely tasty!

MIL's Call
I have some great in laws. I know that I am really blessed to enjoy them like I do. I've gotten along with them pretty much from the beginning of C and I's relationship, and I have grown to be fairly close to my mother in law. Sometimes we talk over instant messenger to relay information back and forth. MIL has been on business trips lately and it's been over a month since I have seen her. She called today.
I talk to my own mother several times a week sometimes, and the conversations usually last a long time. It doesn't surprise me at all when she calls just to talk. But my mother in law doesn't do things like that.
The phone rang, and seeing who it was on Caller ID, I handed the phone to C. He promptly handed it back to me and MIL started chatting.
"I don't have anything to talk to you about! I just realized I haven't talked to you in a really long time! Like I said, I don't have anything to talk about, just wanted to say that I miss you and you should come see me soon!"
I wasn't expecting it at all, but it was very sweet. It's always nice to know that my "new" family is affectionate towards me :)

Random Thoughts
We went to go see Avatar on Tuesday night. We were pretty impressed. I definitely want to buy it when it comes out on DVD. I was definitely enthralled with the loveliness of the graphics. And the Na'vi people were pretty intriguing as well!
I have been having the hardest time concentrating at home to force myself to focus on my schoolwork. It's not even the distractions of Facebook or the internet. Just being in my house is a distraction, since there are tons of other things I could be doing besides schoolwork.
To combat this problem, I have decided that Monday morning/afternoon, I will go to the college and work in the commons and the computer lab and see how much more productive that makes me!
I've been saving up for a netbook for the past 7 or 8 months and I technically am close to being able to get one at this point. We'll see how Monday goes and I may decide to make the plunge to buy it after that. I would love to be more productive while there, which would be fantastic if I was on my own computer.
C and I are watching Inuyashas again. It's a Japanese anime cartoon. We watched them before we were married and watched over 140 of them before the story stalled and we just stopped one day. Since finishing Voyager last year, we have not had anything else to watch. BIL1 was supposed to lend us some shows, but it did not work out. So now we are watching the last 20 or so more of the Inuyashas to finish the series. It's strange watching a childish show again!
I also am wanting to get a macro lens for my camera. However, I can't get both that and the netbook at the same time! I have a lot of wants and not much of a budget for my desires...Or rather my budget can't keep up!
This semester of school has me way over my head already. It's pretty challenging in a couple of my classes, and one of them is pure, obnoxious busywork (and TONS of it) Time will tell how I do...
We took BIL3 and his wife out for pizza last Saturday night. We had a good time of catching up. :) And I'd been craving that pizza like crazy, so that was good!
Well, that's all I can think of at the moment!

A Dream
I had this crazy dream about one of my brother in law's the other night. In the dream, he got one of his really close friends pregnant and they were going to get married. I told the girl I was excited about it because she would become a part of the family. She told me that I was the only person excited about it.
I woke up quite thoughtful and regretful. I'm pretty sure BIL won't end up with this girl, (of course anything is possible) but I wanted it in the dream.
I wasn't planning on telling him about it, but it came up in conversation tonight and I'm glad I told him. He had some ideas on the interpretation of it and stuff and I was quite intrigued. I always dream vivid dreams. And often enough I wake up and ponder them throughout the day. Maybe more of them have meaning to be gleaned than I thought? Anyways, I was happy that he got something out of it and that I made a good choice in letting him know about it :)
Ferrets?
Sunday, I heard that my in laws ended up with 2 ferrets. Long story short, they will not be staying, most likely, but they are quite cute and silly.
My parents in law don't want them, so we had this conversation,
Shell: we could have ferrets for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow!
Mother in law: Not enough meat.
Haha! I tried ;)
I love this one :)
